Most of us carry our phone everywhere. So it makes sense to ask: can my phone be my car key? For many push-start cars in Singapore, the answer is yes. With phone as car key, a small module is set up in your car so that your iPhone or Android phone can lock, unlock and start it.
This guide covers how it works day to day, whether your car is likely to be compatible, what it costs, and the practical questions people ask us most.
How phone as car key works
Your smartphone communicates directly with a hidden in-car module via Bluetooth. During the initial setup, we use a professional automotive OBD programming tool to program the module to your vehicle. After programming and pairing are completed, the module operates independently and can be placed discreetly inside the vehicle, such as inside the centre armrest compartment.
For most supported vehicles, no permanent wiring or permanent OBD connection is required.
Once it’s set up, you use an app on your phone. Depending on your settings, the car can lock and unlock automatically as you walk away or come back, or you can use the buttons in the app.
Is my car compatible?
The system supports a wide range of push-button start vehicles. Compatibility depends on your car’s make, model and year, so the simplest way to check is to WhatsApp us those details and we will check compatibility for you.
It works with both iPhone and Android phones.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on your car’s make, model and year. Estimated pricing:
- Older Asian cars: $280 (installation/programming approx. 1 hour)
- Newer Asian cars: $280–$480 (approx. 1–2 hours)
- European cars: $380–$580 (approx. 2–4 hours)
Send us your car’s make, model and year via WhatsApp and we can confirm the exact price and compatibility.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Once setup is completed, normal functions work without mobile data or Wi-Fi, so you can still use your digital car key in underground car parks or areas with poor or no mobile coverage. That’s useful in Singapore, where plenty of basement car parks have weak signal. An internet connection is only required for things like downloading firmware updates.
Can I still use my physical keys?
Yes. Your original physical keys will continue to work normally. We usually program the digital car key module as your third key. This means you can keep your original keys safely at home and reduce the risk of losing or damaging them.
Everyday features
Sharing access
You can use the app to share vehicle access with family members, employees or colleagues using compatible smartphones. You can also create temporary or time-limited access, so you control when another person’s access expires. Handy if a family member borrows the car for the weekend.
Adjusting the auto lock and unlock range
The app lets you adjust the Bluetooth sensitivity and proximity detection range, typically with settings such as Near, Medium and Far. For best results, place the module in its normal location, close the compartment, doors and windows, then stand about two metres from the car and follow the app’s calibration instructions.
Boot, find-car and remote start
If your original remote key has buttons for boot opening, panic/find-car or remote start, these functions may also be available in the app. Availability depends on your vehicle and module configuration.
Custom buttons
You can rename buttons and add up to two extra buttons to the app’s home screen. Available functions depend on your vehicle and the features your module supports.
Car Wash Mode
Before you hand your car over for a wash or servicing, turn on Car Wash Mode. It temporarily stops the automatic locking from activating when your phone moves away, and lets the car be started while the module stays inside. After you collect your car, switch back to normal anti-theft mode.
Security: what if my phone is lost or stolen?
The system includes extra security options. You can set it up so that your phone must be unlocked, or an in-app password entered, before the car can be unlocked or started. We recommend turning these settings on.
Charging the module
The module has a rechargeable battery and charges through USB-C. Use a 5V / 1A power supply and follow the charging instructions that come with the module.
A full charge typically lasts around 4–5 months. Actual battery life varies with usage, Bluetooth settings, operating conditions and how often you drive.
When the battery is low, the app shows a charging reminder. Below about 20%, automatic locking and unlocking may be disabled to save power, so recharge as soon as you can to get full functionality back.
Software updates
Firmware updates can be checked and installed through the app’s settings. You’ll need an internet connection to download them.
